Student Spotlight – Srey Mouy

Congrats to Srey Mouy

BSI is proud to introduce Srey Mouy. She has been part of our program since 2008, when she was in third grade. Recently, she graduated from college and shared a heartfelt letter with us expressing her gratitude. Along with her letter, she included a photo of herself at her accounting job. We are incredibly proud of her achievements and extend our thanks to her sponsor for supporting Srey Mouy throughout the years. Congratulations to Srey Mouy for persevering and completing her education! Her future is promising, and we eagerly anticipate the remarkable individual she will become. If you’re thinking about sponsoring a student to help them succeed like Srey Mouy, now is the perfect time. We currently have about 20 students on the waiting list who would be incredibly grateful for your support.

Student Spotlight – Pov Yuhan

0

BSI has witnessed numerous high school graduates move on to the college level. We would like to shine the spotlight on one student who recently graduated. Yuhan (left) joined our program 5 years ago and worked endlessly throughout high school eventually graduating and gaining acceptance into a university. He is now a first-year student at Norton University located on the north side of Phnom Penh. His goal and dream as a first-year student is to become a civil engineer. Yuhan is the first in his family to attend college and he is a very hardworking student who studies at the break of dawn and into the mid-afternoon using any free time that he has to focus on his studies and when he’s not in school or helping out his family he loves to fish with his father. He hopes to get a part-time job while attending school to help with the finances because his father is currently unemployed. His mother is the sole breadwinner and is countlessly working and providing for this family of 4 people. He has one brother, Pov Punlar (right) who is currently in school and who is also assisted by a sponsor. Every day is a struggle for Yuhan to attend school but his relentless hard working spirit pushes him to never stop and to carry on each day. He hopes to achieve his goal of graduating college and taking care of his family. We at BSI are very inspired by his journey and accomplishments thus far. As he continues navigating college we ask for your prayers to help lift him up with regards to his family situation and graduating college. We are very proud of how far he’s come and the future that he’s building.

Say Hello to Ya Nita

0

Ya Nita is one of the first students involved with BSI and one of the first college graduates from our program. She graduated from the Royal University of Law and Economics in Phnom Penh, a dream of hers that became a reality. Every person has an origin story and for Ya Nita, her story was filled with adversity from the beginning. She grew up in a small house made from rummaged sheet metal on land that was once a Buddhist temple. Her home like the many others around her had no running water, no bathroom, and no electricity. Her father was not in the picture and her mother has an autoimmune disease which meant for Ya Nita she had to grow up real fast to take care of her mother and two siblings while balancing school and work. With the help of BSI, she was able to finish high school and graduate from College. From there she was able to secure a great job in the banking sector. After a few years, she was able to purchase a nice house in the city for her and her family and received a promotion to Assistant Manager of Commercial Loans at her bank job. We were able to catch up with her during our visit in November and we are happy to report that she is now happily married. She and her loving husband tied the knot in December of 2023 and purchased another home for them and their future family. She and her family are doing extremely well and she hopes to travel more often and to see the world. She mentioned that she would like to come with us on our student visits to encourage other students and show them how important education is and how far it can take you in life.
