Say Hello to Ya Nita
Ya Nita is one of the first students involved with BSI and one of the first college graduates from our program. She graduated from the Royal University of Law and Economics in Phnom Penh, a dream of hers that became a reality.
Every person has an origin story and for Ya Nita, her story was filled with adversity from the beginning. She grew up in a small house made from rummaged sheet metal on land that was once a Buddhist temple. Her home like the many others around her had no running water, no bathroom, and no electricity. Her father was not in the picture and her mother has an autoimmune disease which meant for Ya Nita she had to grow up real fast to take care of her mother and two siblings while balancing school and work.
With the help of BSI, she was able to finish high school and graduate from College. From there she was able to secure a great job in the banking sector. After a few years, she was able to purchase a nice house in the city for her and her family and received a promotion to Assistant Manager of Commercial Loans at her bank job.
We were able to catch up with her during our visit in November and we are happy to report that she is now happily married. She and her loving husband tied the knot in December of 2023 and purchased another home for them and their future family. She and her family are doing extremely well and she hopes to travel more often and to see the world. She mentioned that she would like to come with us on our student visits to encourage other students and show them how important education is and how far it can take you in life.
